As stated in Chapter 48 of the Tao Te Ching:<br>\n<br>\n\t\u201cContinuous gain in rational knowledge breadth increases the ability to manipulate knowledge to satisfy materialistic desires.<br>\n<br>\n\t\u201cContinuous gain in the knowledge of Tao decreases materialistic desires.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the accumulation of rational knowledge is undoubtedly important, however, it remains metaphorically like scratching an itch through a boot if it cannot be internalized as one\u2019s own inner \u2013self realization because it ultimately fails to reach the true essence.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose of studying classics is to guide the direction of life and to establish the right understanding of the Cosmic \u201cTruth\u201d.
