Simple Talks

The Dao is intimately connected to everyday life.

As noted in the Simple Commentary, the Dao follows the cosmic order of operation, encompassing concepts such as dependent arising, causality, and impermanence, from which all phenomena emerge.

For instance:

The sudden chill in the air prompts us to unpack stored winter clothing (dependent arising — because this exists, that arises);
Not dressing warmly enough easily leads to catching a cold (causality);
The weather turns warm and cold unpredictably (impermanence).

As the saying goes, “The Dao lies within the ordinary and the daily,” already woven seamlessly into the fabric of our lives.

The way of living is both an art of relating to others and a philosophy of self-cultivation. Navigating the world and inner practice—external action and inner refinement—complement and complete each other.

“Simple Talks” in a Few Minutes

In a relaxed video format, “Simple Talks” shares lived experience in daily interactions, perspectives on self-improvement, and inspiring stories from various fields—hoping to offer you insight and resonance through brief yet meaningful content in your everyday routine. Have you ever let a first impression sway your judgment (anchoring effect)? Or felt anger over something trivial, only to realize later it wasn’t worth it (empty boat theory)? On life’s journey, we are often confined by fixed patterns of thinking, forgetting to shift perspectives (reframing), or clinging stubbornly to what cannot be changed (Covey’s circle of influence).

True wisdom lies in keeping an open mind (flexibility and adaptability) and preserving a space of tranquility within life’s busyness (the essence of the hermitage). In the videos to come, we’ll explore these ideas through vivid stories and practical examples, helping you understand them deeply and apply them in your own life.
