"Charity" broadly signifies benevolence, kindness, and goodwill. The upper component "兹" refers to lush, thriving vegetation; combined with the lower component "心" (heart), it expresses the heart’s intention to help others grow and flourish.
As illuminated in the Simple Commentary:
Chapter 27: “The good is that which benefits all beings.”
Chapter 38: “The meaning of virtue lies in non‑action and non‑seeking. In conduct and in life, think of others, act for the good of all.”
Chapter 59: “Virtue hides in action, not in words.”
To establish oneself in virtue, to nurture the heart with goodness.
The true essence of charity lies not only in material giving, but in the practice and transmission of virtue. It is rooted in a compassionate heart, manifested in selfless action, and ultimately returns as harmony within society. Every act of kindness carried forward helps elevate the righteous spirit of the community. Wai Yuen Ching She embodies “goodness and virtue” through action, actively engaging in charitable initiatives—including visits to the elderly living alone, nursing home outreaches, community meal distributions, and material donation drives. May we all moisten the heart with virtue and transform others through kindness, allowing this noble quality to spread like spring rain, nurturing countless hearts and lives.
